I think I should not end my journal entries with 'stay tuned'. Not only is it rather tacky, it also is ineviteably followed by a long, long period of no entries at all. I won't do it again. How's that for a New Year's resolution?
Well, life goes on. I would like to wish all you people on my friendslist a splendid start of 2006, and let you know I've been reading faithfully along even though I haven't posted much. I guess there's another resolution lurking behind that sentence.
There's nothing much to say otherwise, so if you're interested, here's the (in)famous 2006 meme. This is the third time I'm doing this, and I'm using a slightly different version to the one that's been going around.
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? Hm... go to Turkey, go to Scotland, attend a Convention, have a stalker, get rid of said stalker, eat sushi, various and sundry other things.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? The resolution to write more, and more regularly, was shamefully abandoned. That one will come with me into next year.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No.
4. Did anyone close to you die? My great-aunt died, but we were not all that close.
5. What countries did you visit? Turkey, England, Scotland.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005? A job that does not involve annoying teenagers, nor trying to teach them the basics of grammar.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? August 4-8. Worldcon. Need I say more?
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Getting my act together enough to organize the trip to Glasgow. I wasn't sure I would manage to go halfway through June. Also, the 12000-odd words of something that sit unedited on my hard drive since January. It's a novel crammed into a short story, I think. If I could decide what exactly it is, I could make something of it.
9. What was your biggest failure? Flunking the German Linguistics exam. For the second time.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? The usual colds, hitting with most precise timing at the worst possible moments. What stands out in my memory was the tonsilitis from hell.
11. What was the best thing you bought? My Worldcon Membership.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? There should be a world-rocking event I should mention here, right? I'm afraid I can't think of any.
13. Wose behavior made you appalled and depressed? I could delve into assorted political issues here, but I'm probably the least political person on this green earth, and I am so on purpose.
14. Where did most of your money go? Travelling ate much of what I spent. I ate the rest, that is, the cost of living alone did.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Worldcon. This is getting repetitive, innit?
16. What song will always remind you of 2005? There are far too many to name them here.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? The same, I think.
ii. thinner or fatter? Somewhat fatter. I've spent way too much of this year lazing in front of the computer.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer, alas.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Writing, roleplaying, going outside. I'm turning into an urban girl, and I miss the forest.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Wasting time online.
20. How did you spend Christmas? With the family. It was surprisingly peaceful, after last year's flying crockery-debacle. Having people from both sides of the family, who didn't know each other well and thus were careful to be civil, crammed into the same house helped, I guess.
21. Did you fall in love in 2005? A brief crush, nothing more.
22. How many one-night stands? Five.
23. What was your favorite TV program? I don't have a TV anymore, and I don't even miss it.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No.
25. What was the best book you read? The Liveship Trilogy by Robin Hobb. That is, I'm still in the middle of it.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery? Vienna Teng. Her songs are hauntingly beautiful.
27. What did you want and get? Travel, books, and many chances to party.
28. What did you want and not get? My own issues sorted out enough to manage a stable relationship. Also, a partner to have said hypothetical rlationship with.
29. What was your favorite film of this year? I'm not sure.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I was 21, and I went to the city's biggest carnival party with two friends. It was a blast.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? I can't think of anything. I am fairly content with the year, and the problems that keep cropping up are too complex to have a single solution.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? Fashion? What's that? I wear stuff that fits me and looks good, 's all.
33. What kept you sane? Reading, writing, my friends, chocolate.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Um... none?
35. What political issue stirred you the most? I'll be provincial and say the re-elections in Germany. I'm still miffed the conservatives are in power again. They have it in for college students.
36. Who did you miss? Everybody I met at Worldcon, and various people I've never met in real life.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
icedrake,
yannarra, and all the Worldcon folks. You know who you are.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: If you don't take care of yourself, who will?
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: "But I won't cry for yesterday, there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find. And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world, I will learn to survive."
See you next year! I hope you have a good one. ^_^
