Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
bardling gave me:
lordofthewheel , yurt, likes-it-warm, games, travel. She also wanted to know about the name 'Nayela', so she gets that too because curiosity is a good thing. :)
lordofthewheel : It's all Dan's fault, really. (Hi there,
icedrake !) Because if he hadn't sold me his ticket to Worldcon '05, Pete and I never would have met. We first ran into each other in Chaos Costuming and backstage of the Masquerade, and that tells you something about us right there. I suppose we started as we meant to go on. Brave lad that he is, he asked me out in March '06, and here we are three years later, and I hope for many more years to come. He's lovely, have I mentioned that? (I'm also a bit worried that the first thing Bardling associates with me is my boyfriend, but I suppose we try to make up for the long-distance thing when we're actually together.)

Yurt: It's amazing how these things lead on to each other, because the yurt belongs to Pete. We took it along for a trip to France last spring because we were eleven people in the house and worried we would run out of beds. Unfortunately, it was beastly cold for spring, at night in a yurt anyway, so we camped in the living room for the rest of the week. The yurt is also our abode at larp events, if we can organise transport for it and all the set dressing. That tent is the envy of the whole Nyctophobia system, and it does feel a little bit like home.
Likes-it-warm: See what I mean about this association chain? I am a wimp, an utter pathetic wimp, when it comes to cold. I've been known to wear ten layers of clothing for autumn or spring larp, and been mocked for it--but hey, you do what you can when you can't get away with a proper jacket. Immersion does not quite trump hypothermia, but it's a close call sometimes. There's this running joke that I'm part lizard. I simply adjust to outside temperature if I'm not careful. Why yes, I do like it warm. The one point where the heat got too much even for me was at the hot springs we went to in Canada. I jumped into my clothes as fast as humanly possible after getting out, though.
In this vein, let me demonstrate the biggest paradox of Pete's and my relationship: if I'm part lizard, he's part polar bear. Observe:

Canada, October 2008.
Games: I'm not as much of a gamer as one might think. Playful to the point of silly, sure, but I haven't got all that much patience for board or card or computer games. (As for the latter, I've never played one in my life if you don't count the little things found around the internet, such as the pixel dragons. I've been known to get addicted to some of those for the sheer, dumb reward of racking up points, which is precisely the reason I stay away from the really interesting things in that field. I'd never get anything done anymore.) I used to roleplay a lot via forums or IM, and I love that for the joy of creating a shared world as you go along, of bringing a story to life together. The same goes for larp, with the added bonus that I get to dress up and run around in the woods and sing by the campfire and act my little heart out. 'Playing pretend' has always been my favourite kind of game.
Travel: Travelling is, if you ask me, one of the best things you can do with your time and your money. I love to see new places, to explore, to get an idea of what the world is like 'out there'. When I was little, I didn't get to travel much because we were short on money, and I wanted nothing more than to see those fabulous places where other people spent their holidays. Most of all, I wanted to see the ocean. My first big journey happened when I was twelve, and went to the North Sea for rehab after sinus surgery. It was everything I hoped for and more. :) From age 14 to 18, I spent my summers gallivanting around Europe with several summer camp-type organisations. After that, I struck out on my own. These days, nearly all of my travelling is to England. It's still exciting, even though flying has become routine. I hope to expand my scope again when I'm settled in the UK--there are far too many places I haven't seen yet, or would dearly love to see again.
So, the name 'Nayela'. I chose it as my online alias when I first got access to the internet, and I still use it--unless it's taken--whenever I sign up somewhere. Its origin is a language I haphazardly began to make up when I was fifteen. (The language didn't go very far, but it went with a map and a culture.) 'Nayela' deviates from a word that means 'curious' and thus roughly translates as 'the curious one'. Which I am. :)

Date: 2009-03-12 09:45 am (UTC)Why I associate Peter with you is simply because I met you through him. :)
But now, I think I shall associate nayela, as I think it suits you - and I happen to be another curious one, so I like it that you made up a word for that, even if nothing much else may be left of the language. :)
Curiosity, exploring, travelling - they all go well together and I'm always pleased to get to know kindred souls in that respect. *hug*
So... care to reciprocate with 5 things?
